ROVER MANIFEST

The bots are made of stainless steel, titanium alloys, and space-grade aluminum, and are equipped to gather lunar minerals that could be useful in future space mining. All electronic devices are positioned 0.8 inches directly above the soil. They are expected to independently perform coordinated functions and work on the surfaces of non-atmospheric space bodies.

MISSION PLAN

The mission includes 5 small robots, weighing less than 60 g each that will be catapulted onto the lunar surfac. The nanorobots will take the first-ever lunar plasma temperature, electromagnetic and regolith particle size measurements. The robots in Project COLMENA will work in a coordinated manner to demonstrate that they can be the explorers and miners of space. Agencia Espacial Mexicana (AEM), the Mexican Space Agency, will fly the first Latin American scientific instrument to the surface of the Moon.

MISSION DURATION

About 13 Earth days or 1 lunar day.
